Existing Students

Families of PRM students are asked to complete a Transition Survey that highlights learning needs, teaching style preferences, and communication preferences. Families may not request specific teachers, but the information that they provide is extremely helpful in making the best placement. The surveys are turned into the Principal. Teams of teachers work to make placements so that each classroom is balanced.

The Principal then considers the surveys turned in to make adjustments based on the survey information. Class lists are then reviewed by the PAM teachers to resolve any potential conflicts. Students will receive invitations to their new classroom community on the morning of Transition Day. Students will spend time with their new classroom community in the afternoon of Transition Day, and will bring home letters regarding their placement.

New Students Transitioning Throughout the Year

The new student and family meet with the Transition Teacher to complete an Intake packet that allows the Transition Teacher to learn more about the child’s background, learning needs and experience with Montessori education.

The Transition Teacher assesses the child’s learning with level appropriate screeners or diagnostic measures. Transition teacher works with new students to acclimate students with the Montessori work cycle and works with the student’s teacher to support the child and the development of his work cycle in the classroom.

The transition teacher also works with the parents to ensure that the students are getting services that they need (Children’s Home, Speech, etc) and serves as a liaison between the new student, new parent and the student’s teacher.

Transition teacher keeps records of the child’s development & progress throughout the school year.
